Is moo moot? Yes, according to the playful folks at Milkadamia, an Australian brand of non-dairy beverages made with – you guessed it – macadamia nuts. We must admit, we were moo-ved by the creamy, refreshing Milkadamia flavor. The richness comes from 4.5 to 5 grams of mostly unsaturated fat (the same as 2 percent milk) and its delicate flavor is thanks to raw macadamias from Australian trees grown by parent company Jindilli Farms. The hint of natural vanilla in the Unsweetened and Original Sweetened varieties is a great match for cereal, smoothies, coffee, hot chocolate and cookie dunking, but if you crave a bigger vanilla hit, reach for the Unsweetened Vanilla version. Blair Jackson, vice president of sales and finance at Milkadamia’s U.S. headquarters in Burr Ridge, says their products can be used for any baked goods that call for milk, or even a Cleopatra-style bath, but we’ll pass on that!

Last July, a year after Milkadamia was introduced in the States, the company’s new Latte Da Barista beverage – cute name, great foam for coffee drinks – took first place for Best New Product and the People’s Choice award at the prestigious Coffee Fest Chicago. We’re impressed with Milkadamia’s nutrition profile, too. Each 8-ounce serving of the original, unsweetened and unsweetened vanilla products is well under 100 calories but provides 45 percent of your daily calcium, 50 percent of Vitamin B12, 25 percent of Vitamin D and just 1 gram of saturated fat.
Quart-size cartons of Milkadamia are available at Whole Foods, Walmart, Amazon.com, ThriveMarket.com and FreshDirect.com. All are free of soy, GMOs and gluten. For more info, visit www.Milkadamia.com.
